It’s happening! That’s what I say to Macey when we pull up into the parking lot at Bethesda on Turkey Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care! “It’s happening” is just one of my favorite things that I have always said to her when something exciting is about to happen and she knows it. When she hears “it’s happening”, she goes crazy! The funny thing about Macey is that she is a smart chick. She doesn’t need me to say a word when we pull up into the parking lot at Bethesda. The girl is already going bonkers to get out of the car and hang out with her new friends! She also gets this excited when we are sitting in the Starbucks drive-thru and she knows that a Puppaccino is coming her way. This is the opposite when we pull into the parking lot of the vet. She will refuse to get out of the car. I can say, “it’s happening” all day long and she knows that I that is a big fat lie!
Who Gives Back To Who?
Her sheer excitement to get in the door and their joy when they see her on Wednesday mornings leads one to ask themselves, who gives back to who? At Eat Drink Play Brevard, we decided to focus on the everyday givebacks and recognizing people in our everyday lives. Choosing to visit the residents at Bethesda on Turkey Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care on a weekly basis is a big day for Macey! She visits each resident including those on the memory care side. I cannot express how important this is for many of these residents. Connecting with an animal has been shown to be healthy for seniors. They can alleviate depression, loneliness, and feelings of isolation. Interaction with an animal for memory care patients can also reduce stress and anxiety.
