An incredible 5-course tasting menu experience is just that….an experience! As part of this year’s Downtown Melbourne Food and Wine Festival’s StreEAT Team of bloggers, I am so excited to be a part of a fabulous get together at Masa Taqueria Y Cantina. This will be Masa’s first year at food and wine and they were so kind to share a little preview of possibilities of what we might see at the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and share with us an amazing little (or not so little) tasting menu of tequila and culinary delights! The table was set up for such an amazing night of tastings with a menu describing each course to help us follow closely because we had 5 small bite courses with tequila pairings. Just for starters, the amuse-bouche appetizer came in a mini skillet with a single shrimp, habanero-blood orange, mofongo, and pico. It paired perfectly with a spicy little Sangrita, meaning “little blood”.
Our second course is a salsa sampler served on a board with a fabulous array of salsas, guacamole, queso served with fresh homemade chips. It is truly salsa for days!! It accompanied another board of mini tacos served on housemade tortillas, super fresh. My favorite is the barbacoa beef and cotija. So, they are not your average taco! In our third course, a Mahi grilled craft taco with mango slaw, cotija, strawberry crema, champagne, and compressed jalapenos is served. This course had one of my absolute favorite tequila cocktails, a Sombra mescal, rosemary, grapefruit, and lime cocktail. The smokiness was spot on perfecto! Our fourth course is named, “uno, does, tres” because it was a fabulous duo of steak with mango serrano herb butter, mole negro chicken cauliflower mash and elote. This is where we were served a flight of tequila for tasting starting with Blanco, Reposado, Anejo, and ending with Sangrita. The Sangrita is meant to highlight tequila’s crisp acidity and to cleanse the palate between peppery sips. We ended the night with a sweet treat of Dulce de Leche Passionfruit Mousse shooter. Masa Taqueria Y Cantina is going to be an incredible addition to this year’s food and wine festival and I cannot wait to find out what they will be sharing! What a fabulous night of food, fun, and new friendships!
